| Mission Hills - Sports Day increases from 1st September 2011 |
|
 |
PEGS members have confirmed, what we had already been advised verbally, that Mission Hills have increased their Sports Day rate (normally Friday's) from 1st September 2011.
The new rate including Green fee, caddy fee and cart has increased from Baht 1,800 to Baht 2,500.
We are in the process of negotiating a Tournament rate for any PEGS events to be held at Mission Hills but we are unsure of a successful outcome in light of these increases. |

Dear Members, Our annual trip to Hua Hin is planned from Sunday August 14th to Saturday August 20th 2011.
The following information that appears here in the Latest News section of our website will also be emailed to all members, as this will be the only general advice. All subsequent correspondence will be direct with those members who have expressed an interest in participating in the trip.
A total of 30 rooms have been booked and tee times for 8 flights of 4 players, a total of 32 spots for 4 days, on two courses, Black Mountain and Banyan.
Following the comments last year to restrict the 4 day Stableford Challenge event to the best two courses, I confirm that we have been able to do this. Wednesday the 17th will be rest day or an optional competition event PEGS against the Hua Hin Golf Society at a course to be determined.
The following details cover the accommodation, golf course booking details and an overview of the Tournament format.
Accommodation - 10 rooms at La Maison, price 1,700 Baht per night including Breakfast for two
20 rooms at Wannara, price 1,600 Baht per night including Breakfast for two
Golf courses - 15/8 - Black Mountain first tee 10.24 booked for 32 pax, price 1,800 Baht (green fee and caddy fee) cart extra 600 Baht

19/8, Banyan first tee 10.30 booked for 32 pax, price 1,950 Baht (green fee, caddy fee and cart)
Tournament format – A Stableford challenge competition played over four days on two different courses. There will be daily winners and also overall Tournament winners. Points will be accumulated from the four rounds played. The overall Challenge event prize winners for the first/second and third place trophies will have stableford points accumulated from the four rounds played. Tee positions will be selected each day and all Men will play from the same tee boxes. Women may play off the Red or Ladies tees.
Handicaps – All players for their first competition day will use their full current PEGS handicaps as at the end of July 2011. Each day’s handicaps will be adjusted every evening via the PEGS handicapping system after the computerised scoring is completed and will reflect the handicap that the player will play off for next day’s event.
The following members have expressed an interest in participating, confirmation by the payment of Bht 3,000 will be required by the July EOM Tournament, if the accommodation and tee time slots are over- subscribed which may well be the case and if we cannot get additional rooms or tee times - it will be on a first paid, first confirmed basis.

On Sunday the Black and Blue tee players will play the Canyon course and the White and Red tee players will play the Lakes course. Tee times on Sunday will be based on the results from Saturday’s round, with players having the lowest net scores teeing off last. Players will be advised of their Sunday tee time and the players in their flight via email with the full draw published in the Tee time booking section of the website.
Scorecards – for the event to run smoothly it is important that scorecards are returned to the scorer within 30 minutes of the completion of play. Player’s scores will be excluded from the event on EITHER day for the following reasons – Scorecards not given to the Scorers within the 30 minute time frame. Card not signed by player and marker. Signing of an incorrect scorecard Scorecards not totalled with gross and net scores.
**Don’t stop at the 18th hole Kiosk at the Lakes after your round or have a shower until your scorecard has been given to the Scorers.
Format The Championships are a stroke play event only, to be played from 4 tee positions – each tee position will constitute a trophy competition. Both Blue Canyon courses will be played on consecutive days for each tee position competition 0-10 handicap - Players in this handicap group must play in the Black tee competition 11-18 handicap - Players in this handicap group can play in the Black, Blue or White tee competition 19-28 handicap - Players in this handicap group can play in the Blue or White team competition.
Women competing for the Women’s Championship must play from the Red tees.

Second day score cards will be available on Sunday prior to the second round.
Green fees for the Blue Canyon courses have been negotiated as follows Canyon - Baht 1,800 plus caddy fee Lakes - Baht 1,600 plus caddy fee
Rules – Use the Rules of Golf plus any local rules indicated on the Golf Course score cards together with any rules for the two days that PEGS may indicate - however your Committee has decided the following –
The “free drop” Blue Canyon local rule for relief from tree roots will be suspended for this event – all balls, stances or swing restrictions caused by the proximity to a tree root will have to be played without free relief. However free relief is allowed where a flower bed or staked tree affect a stance or swing – a flower bed is just that and does not include hedges which are not deemed a flower bed. If in doubt ask the Marker of your card or the other playing partners in your group but always check with your Marker before taking relief.
Regardless of the conditions there will be no lift, clean and place anywhere on the course – except where the Rules of Golf allow for a plugged ball or standing water. If conditions on the day determine a change to these rules, players will be advised before the commencement of each day’s play.
Buffet Dinner and Prize-giving – Sunday night 29th Snacks from 5.00pm and Buffet meal from 7.00pm Venue – Skippers Sports Bar – Royal Phuket Marina - the prize-giving will commence once all the scoring is completed and the last group arrives at Skippers. | TAI PAN – PEGS CHRISTMAS TEAM SCRAMBLE |
|
 |
Dear Members,
Merry Christmas to all our members from the PEGS committee and the Tournament Organising Group and we trust that 2011 will bring successes on the golf course for you all and lower handicaps for those who want them.
As most of you will be aware the Tai Pan Christmas Team Scramble event on Wednesday the 29th is now full.
As we have some PEGS members standing by as reserves, please advise us if there is a chance that you will not be playing as we do not want to have players who book and do not turn up – your committee has had to confirm and pay deposits based on a full field of 80 players.
Since our original communication and outline of the event we would like to advise players of a few important points about golf at the Blue Canyon Lakes course on the 29th.
Blue Canyon – Lakes course
Club Cars - there is a limited availability of club cars, so those member’s who wish to use one should pre-book them as soon as possible at the Blue Canyon Pro shop. We have confirmed that 2 golfers can share a single cart but caddies will have to walk where two players occupy a cart.
Best co-ordinated dress competition – in our enthusiasm to provide an entertaining event we did announce that there would be a most outrageously dressed team competition as well. This can still be competed for but any dress for both competitions must conform with the Dress code required at Blue Canyon – which specifically means that shirts must have an acceptable golf approved collar and that shorts or long pants must be tailored. The only further requirement is that denim cannot be used. Hats are not mentioned so here’s an avenue for creativity! However photographs will be taken prior to the first tee off and judging for the competitions will take place here and players can then commence golf with the conforming clothing. Prizes will be awarded at Skippers in the evening.
On course drink stations – as with all Tournaments these are only to be used for the purchase of refreshments and no resting at these drink stations will be allowed. At the kiosk between the 9th green and the 10th tee one of our co-sponsors will be providing New Zealand Ice Cream tubs to all players. Please take these with you and continue playing.
Flow and speed of play – with a full field of 80 players competing in a team scramble event we want to make the day as enjoyable as possible and not have too many delays or long rounds. The tee box announcers will request that three groups will be at the first tee all the time (one teeing off/one waiting and one arriving). To achieve this, the main registration for the event will be at the Lakes Course club car park. Further information on what to do when you arrive at the course will be emailed on the 26th and also posted on the LATEST NEWS section of the website.
We hope you enjoy the festive season and look forward to seeing you all on the 29th.

| Hua Hin - review and results |
|
 |
I think I can sum up for all of the 25 PEGS members who played the 5 days of golf in the Hua Hin stableford challenge that it was another great week of golf. John Marinko was the worthy winner playing off a 5 handicap that was reduced to 4 by the end of the 5 days and showed what a truely consistent golfer he is, when he had to drop his worst round which was 36 points. Dave Kelleway finished in creditable second place and was the only golfer to play four rounds and therefore not able to drop a round. Hong Shen was close to the lead after the fourth day but suffered from the pressure of playing in the final 4 ball but finished with a solid 4 rounds to finish in third place. Our thanks go to Ulf at Tee Time Thailand in Hua Hin who organised the accommodation and the golf course bookings. The week finished on Friday night with our dinner at Mama Mia's, where various awards were presented for the weaker moments suffered by PEGS throughout the week. There are a possible few changes to the format for next year but from overall comments from those who participated the Hua Hin week of golf will become a regular fixture on the PEGS calendar for some years to come. Dear Our Valuable Partner,
REMOVED PASPALUM AND REPLACED WITH BERMUDA SPECIES
You may have notice of turf work has occurred around the golf course. We have done this for the primary reason was to standard the turf species used through out the golf course. The golf course is currently removed PASPALUM and replaced with BERMUDA species to access growing condition.
CHANGED THE CADDY POLICY FROM THE COMPULSORY TO THE OPTIONAL.
We would like to inform you that we will be changed the caddy policy from the compulsory to the optional.
Because of economic downturn, we find it necessary to change the caddy policy in our golf course to make it more suitable with the situation. Previously, the compulsory caddy policy will be changed to the optional as per your request commencing May 15, 2010. However, the compulsory for the golf cart will be remained the same which will be 600 Baht per golfer (no sharing).
Factor such as decrease in number of caddy; therefore, we need your cooperation to inform our reservation team in advance if caddy will be needed for your game.
We trust you will understand the need for this adjustment. We greatly appreciate your kind cooperation.
Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at jittima.ch@missionhillsphuket.com or 076-310-888.

| COMMENTARY |
|

Back to the Future!!!!!
Those of us involved with computers and the internet for business do tend to take things for granted when we use the big electronic black box in the sky….but from time to time it all comes crashing around our ears!!
How does this affect our golf events you might ask? For those who have received Ian’s recent email, we have had to postpone until June, the May mid month event at Phunaka, due to the new Tee time booking system having a ”conflict” with the new server it is hosted on – nothing to do with shirt colours or anything like that just a “conflict”. All we wanted to do was organise a day/night golf game using our new tee time booking system and we are denied by that big blxxdy black hole in the sky!
Talk about taking “two steps forward and one step back” it is more the reverse, as when we then went to send our the emails to advise members of the postponed event everyone received it three times!! just to reinforce the point in case we had forgotten that “Houston we DO have a problem”.
The one bright spot to come out of this, if you can call it a bright spot (I can think if some other choice descriptions) is that during our investigations into various aspects of the new website hosting and the software changes, we found another “mind numbing” issue – more than 1,000 incoming emails from over the last 5 years had been deposited into a electronic mailbox that no one knew existed. Many of these were spam, returns of emails PEGS had sent out etc, but it still took your Committee a day to respond to those that were still current.
So onwards and upwards - we are working on resolving the booking section of the website as quickly as possible so please let us know if you see any other “strange sightings” during your use of expatgolf.com and in the meantime if you need to contact us “make sure you have been feeding the pigeons” as you may have to use them for communication – only kidding! Lindsey – for the PEGS committee
